The end of the year is a great time for all of us to look back on the past 12 months and try to glean whatever tidbits we can about our daily patterns so that we can learn from them and grow in the new year. One way that we can do that is by reading the virtual tea leaves that come from assessing search engine traffic to see which storylines were the most popular on a state-by-state basis this year.

In the Bayou State, outside of Louisiana sports betting, we can tell that a handful of football narratives joined forces with tech trends and entertainment topics to be the most popular search terms in 2023.

Utilizing Google Trends, LouisianaBets.com analyzed the most searched terms in the state of Louisiana from Jan. 1-Dec. 10, 2023. We finalized the Top 10 queries by utilizing the terms that have seen the biggest increase in search volume over the year of 2023.

Football Still King In Louisiana

It seems like football was a common thread for Louisianans on Google in 2023, with the top increase in searches coming from queries about Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who suffered cardiac arrest during a Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Jan. 2. Hamlin (+2,750%) beat out a handful of AI-related queries, including “ChatGPT” (+1,525% year-over-year), and “Character AI” (+950%), while searches for “Temu” ranked third overall, at +1,100%.

Other than those tech-related topics, the other top search topics in 2023 (by growth year-over-year) were the film “Sound of Freedom” (+900%) “Colorado Football” (+900%), “Saints Schedule 2023” (+850%), “Super Bowl 2023” (+600%) and “LSU Football Schedule 2023” (+550%).

As the year wraps up, there seems to be at least one commonality among the biggest year-over-year increases in search engine terminology, that being the Bayou State’s love of the pigskin at all levels of the sport. Keeps tabs on the Saints playoff chances here as well.
