Louisiana Casinos Post Strong June, But One Property Is Doing Most of the Heavy Lifting

Louisiana's gaming industry closed out June with its best monthly total in recent memory. The Louisiana Gaming Control Board has reported that Louisiana casinos generated $216.4 million in revenue for the month, up 7.6 percent compared to June 2025. It was a headline number worth celebrating, but a closer look at the data shows the growth wasn't spread evenly across the state.

The Numbers Behind the Growth

Originally reported by CDC Gaming, the $216.4 million total marks a solid year-over-year gain, but much of that increase traces back to a single property. Bally's Baton Rouge, which completed its transition from a riverboat to a land-based casino this year, posted $6.2 million in June revenue compared to just $0.9 million during the same month last year under its old riverboat format. That's an increase of more than 617 percent. Strip Bally's out of the equation, and statewide revenue was up only 1.1 percent, a far more modest picture of the market's actual health.

Which Casinos Thrived

Regionally, Lake Charles remained the state's top earner, bringing in $75.0 million for the month, up 2.3 percent from June 2025. L'Auberge Du Lac led that market with $27.9 million, while Golden Nugget Lake Charles posted $25.8 million, a 6.3 percent increase.

New Orleans saw the strongest overall growth among the state's major markets, with properties combining for $54.4 million, up 9.0 percent year over year. Caesars New Orleans was the standout performer, jumping 23.4 percent to $25.2 million, likely benefiting from tourism and event traffic in the city.

Shreveport and Bossier City held roughly steady at $54.2 million, essentially flat compared to last June. Baton Rouge's district climbed 4.9 percent to $26.7 million, though that growth was almost entirely attributable to the Bally's conversion. The Queen of Baton Rouge saw the steepest decline of any property, falling nearly 25 percent to $7.0 million, a sign that competition from newer land-based rivals nearby may be reshaping that local market.

What's Next For The Market?

Looking ahead, the growth story for Louisiana casinos will likely hinge on how quickly newly converted land-based properties like Bally's Baton Rouge can sustain their early momentum, and whether that growth comes at the expense of nearby competitors rather than from new visitor spending. Regulators will also be watching how ongoing efforts to crack down on unlicensed sweepstakes-style gambling affect legal, in-person casino traffic in the months ahead.

Meanwhile, Louisiana sportsbooks continue to carve out their own share of the state's gaming economy. June sports betting win reached $36.0 million, up 7 percent, on a handle of $306 million that grew 25 percent year over year. That gap between handle and win points to a lower hold rate for operators, even as bettor interest keeps climbing. While casinos remain the dominant force in Louisiana's gaming revenue, the steady rise in sports wagering activity shows the state's overall appetite for legal gambling is only growing.
